Virtue Versus Eudaimonia

Virtue is the ethical quality. It is the character of been morally good, and therefore it is valued as a basis of value and decent moral being. Individual virtues are features valued as upholding mutual and solitary prominence. In contrast, eudemonia is the characteristic of a human being to be prospering in life. Eudemonia entails the good act of the individual utility of human beings; similarly, human virtue or superiority is that combination of characters or abilities that empowers humans to execute that role goodly.

While other authors might have a different perception of the relationship between virtue and eudaimonia, Aristotle’s perspective is that eudaimonia was realized through living righteously (Ameriks, Karl&Desmond, 13). Or what can be termed as being moral, upright, and respectable. The eudaimon life is one devoted to evolving the qualities of being human. According to Aristotle, it meant exercising qualities like bravery, understanding, good humor, kind-heartedness, among other qualities. Aristotle expresses ethical virtue as a temperament to comport yourself in the correct style and as a means between excesses and shortage, which are iniquities. Moral virtue is cultured principally through custom and exercise rather than through perception and order.

According to Aristotle, the final objective in life is to attain eudaimonia. Eudaimonia might not precisely be a virtue nor preference rather the repetition and habituation of virtue. Virtue is essential for happiness since if you have to realize happiness in life, one must exercise good virtues (Crisp, 115). The exercise of these good virtues brings about profound gratification and fulfillment. Therefore, Aristotle’s view on virtue is the habituation to exercise moral excellence, and the ultimate goal of virtue is to obtain a happy life.

Excellent functioning of human beings can be bestowed upon the desires and choices of a person made out of their soul (Ameriks, Karl&Desmond, 14). A good, virtuous soul will drive towards obtaining life satisfaction and fulfillment to make one happy. Therefore the practice of virtues is in accord with the excellent functioning of a human being.

To be precise, virtue and eudaimonia have a mutual interdependence. Both complement each other for the excellent functioning and living of a human being.
