The online segment provided a layout where one could easily navigate. When it comes to accessing pieces of artwork in the museum, I navigated to the Exhibition and Art segments. The Met Museum has arranged its exhibition into three categories. They include current exhibitions, upcoming and past exhibitions. Under the Art segments, there are the following sections, Met collection, a timeline of art history, online features, publication, libraries, and research centers. This type of layout makes it easier for an online visitor to take a tour of the available exhibitions. One of the things I noticed about the Met Museum is the wide variety of virtual collections. Next to the paintings, there are labels and brief information about the art or piece of art. Based on my observation, the labels of the museum are for the viewer’s interpretation hence increasing the chances of getting to connect with the painting or pieces of artwork in the museum. The experience at the Met Museum felt like traveling across the globe in a short duration. It was fascinating how one could completely interact with different auras and cultures. Additionally, it has everything that captures that will capture one’s attention and interests.
During my visit to the Met Museum, there are different artworks and paintings that I observed. There were also sculptures and artifacts of different artists from the past and present. The two exhibits that are being selected for the report will be “Anonymous Official,” originating from the thirteenth dynasty in Egypt, (1783 B.C.) and “Head from a Herm” originating from early Greek civilization, (first quarter of the fifth century). I found these two exhibitions interesting because of their faces. As an illustration, human faces are portrayed in a fascinating way to describe how humans were being perceived in a particular period. A closer look at the exhibition makes it easier for one to differentiate the two different pieces of artwork.
Historically, Egyptian and Greek civilization could be considered amazing. This is because the two civilizations have contributed to the philosophies and government policies currently being used by different countries to shape their country. Take, for instance, Greek has contributed to the study of certain philosophies and knowledge. In most cases, Greek is considered to be the origin of Knowledge. This can be proven by the existence of different philosophers who contributed to the study of law, astronomy, and democracy. Examples can be given by Aristotle and Socrates. When it comes to Egypt, it is considered to be the origin of civilization. Additionally, Egyptians are believed to have practice monotheism whereas the Greeks practiced democracy (Ball, 2019). Countries across the globe have acquired.
The sculpture of “Anonymous Official” shows a man’s face drawn characterized by profound facial furrows. The facial features found on the sculpture are a representation of the Egyptian way of life. In the Museum, there were similar sculptures to the Anonymous Official”. Historically, when it comes to describing the Egyptian culture and tradition, they never accepted strangers. The named Egyptian sculpture is believed to have originated during the Middle Kingdom period. It is imperative that this was a period that the Egyptians were being ruled by a Pharaoh. Pharaoh (Kingship) was believed to be the most elevated level that a person could reach. History records it that Pharaohs were highly worshiped leaders and were being buried together with their properties. In addition to this, the perception that the Egyptians had a Pharaoh has been reflected in their specialty of art. Empirical evidence suggests that figures and sculptures of Pharaoh were flawlessly perfect figures. This means that there were pieces of art that could show how actual they portrayed him to be perfect. These figures had wide and thoroughly expressive eyes, which were thought to be “blessed and holy”.
The second piece of artwork is the figure “Head from a Herm”. It was accepted and considered to be portraying the Greek god, Hermes. The head must be equally acceptable to have been originating from a Greek sphinx. Most importantly, the face structure of this figurehead is remarkably characterized. As an illustration, the figure has hair, which is by characterizing the style of that period. Greek pieces of art have been marked and characterized by passion and violence. As an illustration, in the Greek period, there are beliefs and mythology which arose. Take, for instance, there are stories of Zeus Aphrodite, and Aries which came about during the stipulated period. with this, it is clear that the man’s head shows how the Greeks were dedicated and committed to their gods and ways of life. Take, for instance, Egyptians are associated with pyramids that had different rooms in which there were valuables inside. For the Greek houses, they were having huge columns supporting the entire building and sculptures used to decorate the outdoor (Chandra, Cempellin, Chiem, Dardashti, Dalal, Kenney & Elkins, 2016). The interior of a Greek palace was characterized by an exposed room, where people would meet to pray. These rooms were large and they were able to accommodate a large number of people.
In conclusion, when one stares at a piece of art, one gets to understand the emotions, time of the art and the lesson that the artist was passing across. Many people don’t know how to connect to pieces of art because they don’t understand them. It is not until one gets to appreciate that he/she gets to connect with these pieces of art. Therefore, one should acknowledge the fact that different pieces of art have different stories to tell. The experience at the Met Museum made me realize that I shouldn’t limit my horizon because a single museum has a different collection of civilization. Have also realized there is great knowledge in learning different civilizations and culture. Generally, my experience in the Metropolitan Museum is inspirational and memorable.
