Malcolm Gladwell in his article the tipping point discusses the concept of what he mentions as the tipping point. Tipping point explains how ideas or behaviors can spread from one person to many other people. Malcolm contends that tipping point is founded on three variables namely the power of the context, the law of the few and the stickiness factor. The analysis will focus on one variable that is the power of the context. Through this variable Malcolm denotes that the sensitiveness to the idea or behavior depends on alteration and number of times and places that the event has occurred. Malcolm understands how to get to the turning point in an outstanding means by proving that one individual has the ability to change the world through his creative ability.
Situations outside a person’s institution has the ability to controls someone’s behavior as it is portrayed in the article. Malcolm stipulates how certain behaviors can attain a lot of popularity in real life while other do not. For instance, from the article Goetz was asked by the teenager who he met in the train to give him five dollars, for which only that one word of mouth had great impact to Goetz behavior. Goetz knew very well that according to his external situation that is portrayed inside the train, that it is not normal for one to ask for money for free. That word of mouth that was spoken by the teenagers Canty and Barry Allen controlled the behavior of Gomez and knew directly that the teenagers are thieves and this spread widely as people already knew the situations in the train that is why no one was close to the teenagers.
The condition that Goetz met in the train is not the situation that he is well conversant with, he has been raised in a different situation that does not involve people who has such behaviors of theft. He knows very well that killing is immoral and that was not his intention. Goetz situation affected the control of his behavior as he removed the gun and shoot the four teenagers to death. The action spread from the bus and people knew Goetz as a killer while in real sense he was protecting and safeguarding his internal behaviors.
